Spots that Are Often Missed Out while Cleaning Your Home

Now that we are plagued with a global pandemic, one of the recommended safety measures is to stay at home and practise social distancing whenever possible. Apart from staying home, making sure that your home is clean and hygienic is also important in keeping you and your loved ones safe and protected.

However, as interior designers and homeowners ourselves, we notice that there are a few spots that we often miss out while we clean our homes. Therefore, we are compiling a list of these areas so that you can be more aware of them during your cleaning routine.

Undersides of Furniture

One of the most common spots that are often missed out is the underside of furniture such as beds and sofas. Simply take a peek and you would probably find a few dust bunnies rolling about, which can be easily cleaned with a vacuum or dust mop. But what you should be looking at is the actual bottom of the furniture. What you find clinging to bed frames, chair sets, and table braces may shock you. The good news is that these grime can be easily removed with a vacuum or a wet cloth.

Walls

Despite being one of the biggest surfaces in the home, the walls are often times neglected when it comes to cleaning. Over time, dust & grime can easily gather on your walls, creating a greyish blanket over them. The best way to remove these is by using a duster with an extendable handle that can trap particles. While dusting your walls, make sure to pay attention to your baseboards as well as they can collect a large amount of dust too.

Closet Floors

How often do you clean your closet? If you have clothes strewn about, shelves piled high, and things falling on you when you open the door, these are indications that it’s due time for a long-delayed cleanup. However, this time round, we recommend that you check the closet floors as well. They can get especially grimy and dusty due from the outside soil brought in by your footwear. If your closet floor comes with a carpet, it can serve as a breeding ground for mold and mildew.

Vacuum Cleaners and Cleaning Tools

As ironic as it sounds, when was the last time you cleaned your cleaning tools? If all your cleaning tools are dirty, then they will only be spreading dirt and grime around when you use them. The vacuum cleaner, scrubbing brushes, mop, broom, etc., these cleaning tools will accumulate grime the more you use them without cleaning them after. For the vacuum cleaner, do not just empty out the debris bag; wash and clean the cup and filters thoroughly once a month and also check the rotary bars and brushes for any tangled strings of hair. As for your mop heads, sponges, and scrubbing brushes, make sure you soak them in hot water and disinfectant after use.

As an interior design company in Singapore, we are already playing our part in curbing viruses from spreading by implementing preventive measures at our showroom. Remember to take this time to disinfect your homes and we hope that you will continue to stay safe through this trying period!
